KISS OF DEATH is the opening theme of DARLING in the FRANXX. It is performed past Mika Nakashima and produced past HYDE.

Starting from Episode sixteen, the second verse and chorus of the song is used equally the opening theme, with a new opening animation.

Animation

Opening 1

The opening opens with a shot of Strelizia, panning downward. As it reaches Strelizia's 'waist', it cuts to Nix Two leaning backwards to the audience. The side by side shot shows her wearing only the hat and jacket of her full ensemble, looking up to face the viewers. Aught Two's mitt reaches out and caresses Hiro'southward cheek down to his mentum, followed by ii unlike shots of Zero Two, the 2nd one ending with Nix Two leaning dorsum and falling gracefully, leaving her hair sweeping across the screen equally the brusk instrumental before the verse plays.

Hiro's confront is shown, downcast, as his details (code, proper noun, occupation and FRANXX) wink on the screen. The bold, reddish background contrasts his colourless, greyscale self. It zooms out and shows Hiro walking apathetically, which is rapidly replaced with a younger Hiro in the Garden uniform and a lighter background. A close upward of Zero 2 with her details, dressed in her total parasite ensemble, follows. This too quickly zooms out, and she is seen walking aslope Hiro in the same way. The screen starts to swirl with blue, then flashes a flashback from Episode 13, which seems to startle Hiro. The viewpoint changes and Hiro is at present seen facing Zero Two. Their cut-outs slide past one another and transitions to the next scene. Here, three shots of the Garden is seen - from the superlative, front end and a zoom in of the forepart. In the concluding shot, all the members of Squad 13, besides Zero 2 can exist seen amongst the other children, as children. All the children in this shot don the compatible worn past the children at the Garden. While all their faces are non shown, it is piece of cake to make them out due to their unique hairstyles and code numbers flashed in white (from left: Zorome, Mitsuru, Futoshi, Goro, Hiro, Ichigo, Kokoro, Ikuno and Miku).

While Futoshi looks towards the audience, Kokoro seems to be looking at him. This follows with Ikuno and Mitsuru with their FRANXX Chlorophytum. Whilst Ikuno looks at the audience, Mitsuru seems to be looking at her. Following the partner shuffle in Episode 11, Episode 12 changes the FRANXX pilots cuts into Kokoro and Mitsuru—who are looking at each other—for Genista and Ikuno and Futoshi for Chlorophytum.

Portraits of Squad 13's members flash across the screen, with their details, in the club: Ichigo, Goro, Miku, Zorome, Kokoro, Futoshi, Ikuno and Mitsuru. Next, Zippo Ii licks the honey off her lips, then a shot of dearest being poured is shown. Nada 2 holds Hiro'due south face and kisses him. Following this, Hiro is shot backwards, and then catapulted into the air. During this, the background transitions from reddish to the sky. Strelizia in stampede mode catches him, then evolves to form Strelizia'due south iron maiden class. Strelizia flies closer to the bespeak of view, then lands to the left of Delphinium, Argentea, Genista and Chlorophytum.

Nana and Hachi are introduced past their portraits, with their names shown in white, against the red background. A shot of the plantation's inner city, in greyscale, follows. Information technology starts with its hands cupped, bends downward and blows at its easily. Strelizia breaks, revealing its cockpit to Hiro who is continuing before information technology. When the cockpit breaks likewise, Zippo Two, donning nothing but the jacket of her full ensemble, reaches out to hold Hiro'south face. The current of air blows, making her jacket breaker and their hair move. The japanese logo for DARLING in the FRANXX appears on the screen. When the words achieve their final positions, Hiro and Zero 2's pose turns into a grey picture, with the words in the logo becoming the colour black. The word "DARLING" and the second "10" in the logo turns blue, while the give-and-take "FRANXX" and the start "Ten" in the logo turns red. With this, the song ends.

Opening two

The opening begins with a naked Zero Two falling into deep water and she descends deeper. Every bit she slips deeper under h2o, big and upwardly close visions of (in guild) Dr. FRANXX, nine'α, Vice Chairman, Papa, Nana and Hachi are seen. A pair of large klaxosaur hands from Episode xv open up as Null Two lands on them. As she sits up, she looks towards an ocean and a starry sky. A wing appears on the left side of her back, then she evaporates into bubbles which trail to the right. As the bubbles trail off, the white version of the Japanese logo for DARLING in the FRANXX appears briefly, before bursting into bubbles and floating away.

Hiro is shown within the h2o, reaching out to his correct side. As he slowly floats towards the correct, the screen shows holograph flashes of the rest of Team 13. Ichigo and Goro, who are laying side by side with their eyes airtight. Miku and Zorome, who are against each other'south backs and their eyes are besides closed. Ikuno and Futoshi, both whose eyes are open and they are looking at the opposite direction of each other. Kokoro and Mitsuru, who are looking at each other and attempting to attain to the other simply are beingness pulled back. They then evaporate into water and trail to the right.

Hiro's face is shown upwardly shut and a blue silhouette of him starts running, and blue-white silhouettes of the rest of Squad 13 bring together him. In the groundwork, flashes of various scenes from previous episodes are shown.

Squad 13 (in lodge: Ichigo, Goro, Miku, Zorome, Ikuno, Futoshi, Kokoro and Mitsuru) reach their dominant arm out and heighten their hands high, as of to reach to the top of the water. For a brief moment, a close upwardly of a ix Model FRANXX is shown. Portraits of the 9's and their FRANXX are shown and followed past the Klaxosaur Princess in a starry background, whose tentacles are shown behind her. She then evaporates into blackness h2o. In a white background, Hiro looks at Null Ii with a grin and she looks at him with a smiling. They endeavour to hold hands and kiss but her body passes through him and she evaporates into nix just cherry blossom. Hiro ends upward hugging himself and he is now wearing his parasite suit while continuing on an body of water. He lets become and stares at a shadowy Strelizia Apath Apus at a distance.
